At Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, we often use macrons when writing kupu Māori. A solution for adding macrons was the creation of new fonts such as Arial Māori. Unfortunately, these fonts are not displayed correctly if the font is not loaded on the computer on which the document is being viewed. That is, if you send a document you have created using Arial Māori to someone who does not have the font loaded on his/her computer, macrons will be shown as random characters.

The Scribe Template provides macrons based on symbols in the Arial font, and these will display correctly on everyone's computer. Macrons can be accessed either through the Macrons menu at the top of your screen or by using shortcut keys.
