education sector.
Scribe Limited at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa
Scribe was initially
contracted to work with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa in mid-2005 as a
member of Te Wāhanga Rautaki (the Strategic Unit). This unit was
responsible for preparing funding, planning, briefing and other documents
to be sent to the government on behalf of the institution.
During an institutional
restructure in 2006, Te Wāhanga Rautaki evolved into Te Karumārama
(the Executive Support Office). In addition to its core work, this office
became responsible for a multi-million dollar suite of projects to realign
the institution for the coming tertiary reforms.
Projects
- A1J1 Assessment
of Strategic Relevance Review – Scribe was contracted to create
the templates for this review that targeted 11 programmes that brought
in 65% of the institution’s income. Scribe wrote four of the initial
submissions and all eleven of the re-submissions required by the review
process. The Tertiary Education Commission rated all programmes as
‘strategically relevant’ and funding was continued.
- Annual reports
(2004 - 2009) – Scribe wrote the institutional overviews for these
six institutional annual reports, as well as writing introductions
for the Chief Executive and Council Chairperson. Scribe also formatted
the financial sections of these reports prior to lay-up by a graphic
artist and proofed the laid-up reports prior to printing.
- Te Anga Whakamua
consultation documents – Scribe assisted with preparation of consultation
documents for an organisational restructure that occurred in 2006.
Scribe also assisted in preparation of a document that detailed the
future direction and new organisational structure for the institution.
- Funding profiles
and investment plans – Scribe assisted with the development of
two institutional profiles and one investment plan. These funding
documents, required by legislation, detailed the institution’s three-year
plan.
- Encouraging
and Supporting Innovation Fund – Scribe assisted with development
of applications for funding from this fund. All three applications
were approved by the Tertiary Education Commission for funding.
- Ngā Kaihautū
policy review – Scribe assisted Ngā Kaihautū (the executive
directors) with a major review of all institutional policies. The
review included rationalisation of existing policies and creating
a new, consistent format for all policies.
- Te Kaupapa
Kounga (QMS) 2006 – Scribe rewrote the institutional quality management
system manual to reflect more clearly the nature of the institution
and its philosophy.
- Programme
curriculum documents – Scribe assisted with the redevelopment
of a number of programme curriculum documents and helped create a
new template that has brought consistency to these documents.
- Staff induction
handbook – Scribe restructured and rewrote the institutional staff
induction handbook.
- Marketing
documents - Scribe was involved in proof-reading a variety of
marketing documents, including prospectuses, identity style guide
and brochures.
- Ka Mīharo
- Scribe was the proof-reader for the quarterly institutional staff
magazine.
- Other projects
- Scribe provided general writing, editing, formatting and proofing
duties on a regular basis. This work has helped bring consistency
to communications within the institution. Scribe also provided a help
service for staff members having difficulties with MS Word.
Productivity Tools
Scribe created a
productivity add-on for Microsoft Word that has been installed on PCs
and laptops at the Head Office at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. The add-on
provides document elements, boilerplate text and shortcut keys that
improve productivity and produce a consistent format for documents and
reports written within the organisation. Although initially created
for MSWord 2003, Scribe customised the user interface for MSWord 2007
through the addition of three new tabs to the MS Word ribbon.
